Ald. Knudsen Files Nearly 2,000 Petition Signatures with Support of Reps. Croke, Williams, Harris
Knudsen Confident in Filing 4X Required Amount of Signatures as Groundswell of Energy Surrounds Campaign
Chicago — Alderman Timmy Knudsen of the 43rd Ward was among the first in line to file petition signatures to get on the February 2023 ballot, feeling confident this morning as a groundswell of energy surrounds his campaign for office. By filing at the first moment available, Knudsen is eligible for the coveted first position on the ballot.
“I’m so grateful to all of the friends, family and supporters who have stood by my side and gathered four times the required number of signatures to ensure I’m on the ballot in Feburary,” said Alderman Timmy Knudsen (43rd Ward). “The energy I’ve seen on the streets and at the doors is beyond encouraging, and I look forward to channeling it into a successful campaign. I’m proud to have Majority Leader Harris and Reps. Croke and Williams as a part of this winning team and thank them for their leadership and support. Momentum is on our side.”
As the campaign enters a new phase, Ald. Knudsen also announced the formal endorsements of three North side leaders in the Illinois General Assembly who he has worked with over the years to support candidates and causes close to their hearts.
When Timmy told Rep. Croke that he was going to run for 43rd Ward Alderman, she knew she would have a partner in advocating for city resources for women and young families.
“Timmy and I met when we were fighting to elect JB Pritzker, who was running against a Republican Governor who had destroyed Illinois’ social services and was blocking HB40—legislation that removed the trigger law that would have banned abortion if Roe v. Wade were reversed,” said State Rep. Margaret Croke (12th District). “Timmy will take that same fight to City Hall to advocate for funding for early childhood education, community spaces, and safe neighborhoods. As a 43rd Warder raising my children in the heart of Chicago, I know that Timmy listens to families like mine and will be our champion. I’m proud to endorse Timmy Knudsen for Alderman of the 43rd Ward.”
On the campaign trail in the 43rd Ward, Rep. Williams counted on Knudsen to help elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
“Over the years, Timmy has been a strong and pragmatic voice for our community and the values we share,” said State Rep. Ann Williams (11th District). “From protecting reproductive rights to advancing LGBTQ+ equality to supporting small businesses, Timmy’s priorities are aligned with our community’s and his positive energy, commitment and leadership style will elevate the residents of the 43rd Ward. We need Timmy in City Hall to face the many challenges ahead - and I’m supporting Timmy Knudson for Alderman because I know he'll deliver for the 43rd Ward."
The first openly gay person in Illinois to become a member of legislative leadership, Rep. Harris led the charge to pass state legislation allowing same-sex couples to marry — and Knudsen was watching his every move and finding ways to get involved himself.
“Timmy is one of the new generation of LGBTQ leaders who will fight for our rights while he fights for the 43rd Ward and for all of Chicago,” said House Majority Leader Greg Harris (13th District). “He listens more than he talks, brings people together and builds consensus — all qualities that are fundamental in being a steward of the people and getting things done. Timmy has a proven record of success, is a very hard worker and deeply cares about the people in his Ward and the entire City. As a proud early supporter, I am so pleased to formally endorse Timmy Knudsen for 43rd Ward Alderman. He brings something special that no other candidate does.”
